Who are we supporting?
Fundación Niños y Niñas de Cristo (FONICRIS)
La Romana, Dominican Republic
Founded in 1993, Fundación Niños y Niñas de Cristo is a non-profit organization dedicated to the long-term care and development of children in situations of extreme vulnerability.
For over three decades, FONICRIS has provided a safe and nurturing home for children affected by abandonment, abuse, or neglect offering them not only protection, but structure, education, and emotional support.
Funds raised through this event directly support daily care, educational and creative programs, and the maintenance of safe, dignified spaces where children can grow, learn, and imagine a future beyond their circumstances.
By supporting FONICRIS, you are investing in more than a cause, you are contributing to lives shaped with intention, stability, and possibility.
Thirteen children from the FONICRIS Foundation have been creating original artworks that will be available for purchase during the fundraiser event.
These young artists are part of the foundation’s ongoing art programs and have been working with dedication and creativity toward this moment since last year. Each piece reflects not only their talent, but also the growth, confidence, and expression nurtured through the program.
Featured Artists
Tito Herrera
Tito Herrera is a photographer, producer, and director whose work moves seamlessly between documentary storytelling and contemporary portraiture. Known for his sensitive and layered visual language, his images explore social realities with depth, restraint, and poetic clarity.
His work has been commissioned and published by leading international platforms including The New York Times, National Geographic, TIME, and the United Nations, and has been exhibited in galleries and festivals worldwide. Herrera’s photography is widely recognized for its ability to capture human complexity with honesty and quiet intensity.
Currently based in Panama City, Herrera continues to develop personal and commissioned projects that position photography as a powerful medium for memory, dialogue, and reflection.
CUPECAN is a black-and-white documentary photograph by Tito Herrera, created in 2001 during a visit to a batey in the Dominican Republic. The image portrays a sugar cane cutter in a moment of stillness, where labor, body, and history quietly converge.
Part of Herrera’s early documentary work, this photograph reflects a formative period in the artist’s career, defined by direct observation, restraint, and social awareness. The stripped-down monochrome composition emphasizes texture and presence, transforming an act of everyday labor into a timeless human portrait.
As an early work, CUPECAN holds particular significance within Herrera’s archive, offering collectors and institutions insight into the origins of a photographic voice that would later gain international recognition.
Diego Sebastián Minaya
Diego Sebastián Minaya is a Dominican visual artist whose work bridges architecture, interior design, and emotionally driven painting. Born in Santo Domingo in 1997, his practice blends structural awareness with symbolic abstraction, exploring the psychological and spiritual dimensions of the human experience.
Formally trained at the National School of Fine Arts and the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in Architecture, and currently pursuing Interior Design , Minaya integrates technical precision with expressive depth. His visual language draws from abstract expressionism and emotional symbolism, incorporating recurring elements such as human silhouettes and natural rope—metaphors for vulnerability, connection, and transformation .
In 2024, his first solo exhibition, Entre Sogas, at Arte San Ramón (ASR Galería) marked a defining moment in his career and led to his official representation by the gallery .
Hold On Kid, is a mixed-media work created with coffee, acrylic, and treated natural rope on canvas . Measuring 27 x 67 inches , the vertical composition captures the intimate reunion between the inner child and the adult self.
From the child’s perspective, the adult becomes the hero who returned. The embrace transforms into an act of gratitude—a homecoming to a love once lost and finally restored . Through textured rope and layered coffee tones, Minaya translates personal healing into a universal symbol of redemption.
Part of the Café del Mar collection (2025), the work reflects a mature phase in the artist’s evolving practice and stands as a meaningful contribution to the Art & Purpose event.

Lucrecio Peralta
Lucrecio Peralta is a Dominican artisan and self-taught artist whose work transforms natural materials into expressive handcrafted objects. Born in Moca, Dominican Republic, in 1970, Peralta grew up in a large family and faced many economic challenges during his childhood. At a young age, his life changed when a woman who recognized his potential supported his education and provided him with stability, allowing him to pursue opportunities that would later shape his path as an artisan.
At the age of fifteen, Peralta began working in a small workshop where artisans created decorative pieces from coconut shells. What started as curiosity soon became a craft he would dedicate himself to for many years. Over time, he developed the skills to carve, assemble, and hand-paint coconut materials, creating butterflies and other decorative objects that combine traditional craftsmanship with vibrant artistic expression. Through perseverance and creativity, he built a small business that continues to support his family, selling his work from his home and through shops along the Dominican Republic’s north coast.
For the Art & Purpose fundraiser, one of Peralta’s hand-painted butterfly sculptures will be available for bidding. Crafted and painted by him, the piece reflects the artisanal tradition that has defined his career, transforming simple natural materials into vibrant symbols of resilience, beauty, and hope.
Amelfie Teresa Alba Alba
Amelfie Teresa Alba Alba is a Dominican interior designer, decorator, entrepreneur, and visual artist whose work bridges interior architecture and realistic painting. Born in Moca, Dominican Republic, she developed an early appreciation for art, design, and cultural heritage that would shape her multidisciplinary career.
She studied Interior Design and Decoration at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) and later expanded her artistic training through painting studies, including Human Figure Drawing at the Altos de Chavón School of Design, as well as landscape design courses in Santo Domingo.
Since 1990, Alba has been the founder and director of Alba Artes y Decoraciones, a design studio through which she has developed residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. Alongside her design work, she maintains an active painting practice in oil and acrylic, exhibiting her work both locally and internationally. Through decades of creative practice, Alba has contributed to the fields of interior design, decorative arts, and visual culture in the Dominican Republic.
Three of her works will be available for auction at the Art & Purpose fundraiser. The pieces “Ventana” (1918), “Casa del Frontón” (1922) and Casa Vernácula (1870) are part of her architectural print collection inspired by historic Dominican houses. Drawing from the Victorian architectural heritage of Moca, these prints highlight the geometry, color, and ornamental details characteristic of traditional Caribbean façades. Through simplified forms and vibrant tones, Alba transforms historic architecture into contemporary visual tributes to Dominican cultural heritage.
Musical Impact In Motion
Live Performance
Art & Purpose is honored to feature a special live performance by the El Sistema Punta Cana Kids Orchestra, a youth ensemble transforming lives through music.
El Sistema Punta Cana is part of the internationally recognized El Sistema movement, dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality musical education to children and adolescents. Through orchestral and choral training, the program nurtures discipline, confidence, collaboration, and artistic excellence. For many of these young musicians, this program represents far more than music lessons. It is structure. It is mentorship. It is belonging. It is possibility.
In 2025 alone, El Sistema Punta Cana delivered more than 2,178 hours of music education, providing free instruction to over 250 children and adolescents in the region. With a growing inventory of instruments and expanding international collaborations, the program has established itself as a leading cultural force in the Eastern Dominican Republic.
Their presence at Art & Purpose is intentional. It reflects the heart of this evening: creativity aligned with opportunity. When a child steps onto a stage with confidence, guided by education and community support, we witness the true impact of investment in the arts. The El Sistema Punta Cana Kids Orchestra reminds us that art is not only something to be admired or collected. It is something to be cultivated. And when nurtured with care, it becomes transformation in motion.
